Ex Birmingham City and current Macclesfield Town defender Mitch Hancox has become a FootieBugs coach to help give back to his local community and coach some potential stars of the future at our football classes in Solihull!
Mitch, who was born in Solihull and has supported Birmingham City all his life, spent 14 years at his boyhood club, playing 48 times for the first team. He was part of the memorable game against Bolton Wanderers, putting in a perfect cross to assist Nikola Zigic for a goal in the 2-2 draw which saw the Blues stay up on the last day of the 2014 season. He joined Macclesfield Town in August 2016 and enjoyed a successful first season, scoring 6 goals (including a hat-trick against Boreham Wood) and also helping Macclesfield to an appearance at Wembley in the FA Trophy Final!
Alongside playing professionally at Macclesfield, Mitch is delighted to join the FootieBugs team and coach children at our local football community classes in Solihull.
We recently sat down with Mitch, who spoke about why he chose FootieBugs and the lack of opportunities he had at a young age.
“A big thing for me was playing football and especially playing at the high level I have played, you always want to give something back and since I’ve been doing my training here at FootieBugs, I’ve not seen one child without a smile on their face and it’s just a brilliant thing to do. If you love football, then you want to give something back.”

Mitch will begin coaching at the Solihull Sixth Form and Tudor Grange Leisure Centre at our community football classes in Solihull. FootieBugs ensure that children are given the best football coaching possible at a young age to not only develop their core skills, but gain positive and fun experiences of football, whilst also developing their social skills through working in teams and making new friends!
As Mitch progresses through FootieBugs and gains more experience coaching, he aspires to work with the children at the FootieBugs Academy. At the Academy he would be coaching FootieBugs children with a chance to earn a place at his former club Birmingham City, in their academy and youth system.
